Vicker Hardness 5Kg and 10Kg

Vickers - the number obtained by dividing the applied load in kilograms force by the surface area of the indentation in square millimeters computed from the mean of' the measured diagonals of the indentation. For Vickers, read the two diagonals of the indentation to within 4% or 0.25um, whichever is larger, and find the average of the diagonal lengths.

This type of hardness is very usefull for doing weld profiles and determination of hardness in Heat Affected Zones (HAZ). There are several specification which call out the use of this type of hardness method. The testing method which governs the marco hardness Vickers is ASTM-E-92.

Other Specification which call out the use of Vickers:

  • API 5L
  • ASME Section IX
  • AWS D1.1
  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-2
